The construction of our first mobile dryer at Ndogbe Sprout was a true community effort, completed over six months of weekend work. Each week, I traveled from Accra to the workshop in Mafi Adidome to work with our welding team, guiding the project from the planning stage all the way to the final product. What started as an idea turned into a fully functional prototype that is still in use today.
A key part of our success was the help we received from Ashesi University. An assistant lecturer in engineering from Ashesi was instrumental in guiding the welding team on how to interpret the technical drawings and bring the design to life. His expertise ensured that every step was done right.
The Director of the Adidome Farm Institute also played a vital role, using his experience to gear his team together and provide practical, hands-on guidance throughout the process. This collaboration between educational institutions, local experts, and our team allowed us not only to build a successful dryer but to empower local welders with new skills. Today, this team is ready to build more dryers and train others, creating a sustainable solution for the community.
